Character: Oriko Mikuni
Fandom: Puella Magi Oriko Magica (Puella Magi Madoka Magica spin-off)
History: Oriko is/was the daughter of a famous congressman, Hisaomi Mikuni; she looked up to her father with awe, thinking he was fighting to save the world in his own way... only for the man to be arrested and thrown out of office on corruption charges. Her family was brought to ruin, and her father committed suicide.
Before this incident, she was well-known and respected, seen as an refined, upper-class girl from a good family, attending an expensive school, but after her father was exposed, everyone around her rejected her. In a sense, people only saw her in terms of her father; thus, cold and alone in her empty house, she made a contract with an Incubator with the words:
"Everyone could only think of me as my father... If I'm only a part of my father, then why am I alive? I wish to understand the meaning of my life!"Oriko's ability as a Puella Magi, curtsey of her wish, was precognition. Upon contracting, she immediately discovered the ultimate fate of the Puella (they become Witches, the very enemy they're supposedly contracted to fight)... and the fate of one Kaname Madoka, who by the time-travelling shenanigans of Akemi Homura had a ridiculous amount of potential as a magical girl.
If Madoka contracted (and there was no way in hell Kyubey would ignore someone with that much potential) she would become the most powerful Puella Magi in history... and consequently, the most powerful Witch; powerful enough to end the world in a matter of days. Oriko saw this future, and Akemi Homura failing to prevent her contract, and realised there was only one solution: if the Incubators would contract Madoka at any cost, the only way to save the world would be to assassinate her first. This is basically the plot of Oriko Magica; she's actually the villain, attempting to outwit Kyubey and Homura so she can kill Madoka.
Ultimately, she succeeds, even though she has to sacrifice her own life and that of her best friend / lover / demented yandere minion Kirika Kure to do it. Afterwards though Homura just resets time so the whole thing ends up kinda moot (what she does in the other timelines is unknown; she never appears).
Personality: Oriko's sole goal is to save the world. She is fighting to keep it safe and protect everyone's happiness; if that means she has to kill to do so then so be it. She's not happy about it, but she'll do it anyway.
Given her wish, she is very sure of her actions and her place in the world; it's not confidence, it's outright knowledge. Hence, she can perform any action with certainty if she knows it will save the world. In reality, she's actually a very cautious person, who only starts killing people (or to be more specific, telling Kirika to go start killing people) if she feels she has absolutely no other choice. That said since Precognition is one of those things nigh impossible to pull off in RP (since mun, sadly, cannot see the future), she will have to lose that ability as a matter of practicality. This will make her
much more cautious in her actions (so no crazy last ditch gambit to attack the school or assassinating the other Puella Magi in the area as a distraction as happens in Oriko Magica), though she still understands that Madoka Kaname needs to die to save the world.
As a Puella, her only meaningful relationship is with her friend and fellow magical girl Kirika Kure; previously a shy and timid girl, completely antisocial, who latched onto Oriko when she was kind to her. Kirika, however, felt her current personality was too useless to be of interest to anyone, so she made her wish for it to change, resulting in a very unbalanced persona that is completely dedicated to Oriko. Oriko, for her part, is unaware of this and does not remember the 'original' Kirika she met when she was younger; to her, Kirika is a close friend and ally. They live together, presumably in Oriko's old house, maintaining a rose garden. In Oriko's own words, she would really be broken if Kirika wasn't around, and in canon she is partially defeated because she makes an utterly meaningless action to defend Kirika's corpse.
In short Oriko is generally a reserved, kind and polite girl who just wants to protect as many people as possible... but if you stand in the way of that, even if through no fault of your own, she will eliminate you. She is not proud of the things she's done, to the point where in the afterlife she cannot move for the weight of all the deaths she's caused. In her eyes, the ends (generally, avoiding whatever bad fate she sees coming) justify the means. Without her precognition however she will be much less willing to go down this route, since nothing is for certain any more.
She generally stays calm in any given situation however (most notably, when a Witch attacks her house all she is does is
make tea whilst Kirika merrily hacks it to pieces); because of her upbringing, she has pride in her composure, and as a Puella Magi this skill is doubly important considering how their abilities are linked to their emotional state. Her only goal is to save as many as possible.
Without her precognition to guide her, her confidence that her actions will succeed are hampered, but no so much her confidence in her cause. Anything is preferable to having Madoka end the world, after all. Because of her upbringing, she is a naturally charismatic manipulator and very careful with her words. That said, she's also lonely and has only Kirika for company she can trust, meaning Kirika is partially responsible for Oriko staying sane. Kirika is a crazy yandere. Go figure.
Other:Oriko is a Puella Magi, aka 'Hi DDD have more Magical Girls'. She can transform / detransform at will, fights completely bizarre creatures known as Witches and carries a Soul Gem; the mark of a Puella Magi. Yes it is literally her soul. If she uses too much magic without recharging it or becomes particularly, er, grief-stricken, it will explode and transform into a Grief Seed; Oriko herself will become a Witch. It is broken under any other circumstances, that's it, she's dead. Otherwise though, she can heal damage with magic, though it takes a while. Finally, if she travels more than 100 metres away from it, her body will drop down dead. Like all Puella Magi, Oriko is actually the
soul gem itself; her body is just a magically controlled meat puppet (it'll even start to decompose after a while if the connection is severed). Putting the gem back in contact with the body seems to reverse this.
The only way she can recharge her magic is though dumping the corruption into grief seeds, so she's extremely miserly about using it. Her precognition also factors into this... or it would if it hadn't been locked for the sake of RPing her. It's canon that Puella Magi can lose certain abilities due to trauma or similar events (Sakura Kyouko, for example, used to be able to generate illusions), so we can handwave it as that. Precognition aside, she fights with ornate, telekinetically controlled metal spheres. Though Puella Magi have been shown doing all manner of crazy additional magic (all, it should be noted, at some form of cost to their soul gem) like enchanting bats and spectator glasses, performing amazing feats of agility and Magical Parkour etc, and all boast some skill breaching into barriers (because how else do you hunt Witches if you can't get inside their labyrinth).

First Person:1 - Do you believe in fate? Why or why not?Naturally; I have first hand experience. That said, the future can always be changed. There is nothing fixed; be at ease. It is always possible for things to work out for the best, if we try.
2 - You find a wallet on the side of the road, but there's no one around. What do you do with it?[sigh] ...Take it. We go unpaid, after all. That's secrecy for you. Stealing wallets is less risky than stealing food; money is such a slippery thing, is it not?
3 - Do you have any dreams or ambitions? How do you intend to achieve them?I would like it for the world to continue. I would like it for there to be peace and happiness. Obviously things can never be perfect, be can always strive to move forward, hmm? Perhaps it is a folly, but I will work towards it to the best of my abilities.
4 - How do you feel about your hometown? What do you think the people there would say about you?It is a city like any other. As for the residents, I doubt they would say anything pleasant. If I'm even remembered!
If they recall me at all, it will be in terms of my father. They wouldn't know me beyond that... though at the time, perhaps that's all I was.
I do not blame them, in any case. He caused a lot of trouble.
5 - You're at the scene of a robbery, but you manage to get the upper hand; you're holding the gun. The robber is at your mercy. What do you do?Render him unconscious with my spheres. The police can deal with it. If we are discussing my own home, that should never occur unless the robber is a fellow Puella Magi. In that event, I would shoot. Please do not take offence, but relocating would be a problem for me. We can ill afford distractions. And... well, somehow I doubt Kirika would take kindly to anything else. It's for the best.
6 - You have 24 hours left to live. What 5 things would you do in those remaining hours?Apologise to Kirika for everything, settle my accounts and save the world, in that order.
That's not five, I know, but there is little else I would see done; the last is complicated enough on its own, wouldn't you say?
7 - How do you normally dress? Why do you dress that way? They're just my old clothes from before. They fit, and I'm comfortable in them; why change anything? Admittedly I have little reason to bother with my uniform; it's for the better if the real world thinks me missing.
As for my uniform I honestly cannot hope to explain that. Perhaps the Incubators would have more information. Does it matter?
8 - What would you like to be remembered for after your death?I would like not to be remembered, if I'm honest. It's better that way. Though I can say I succeeded. Even if the world condemns me, if it still exists to do so, I shall accept that.
9 - Do you have any strong memories that have stuck with you from your childhood? Why are they so powerful and lasting? My father, for so many reasons. I helped him on a campaign, once; he claimed he was working to save the world.
The liar.
10 - If you were to die right now, what would you have to say about your life? What have you achieved? Would you be content? If the world is safe, then yes. If it is, then no. Though I would ask that Kirika survives this, if possible. I realise how unlikely that is, but I hope she can live on.
Of course, if Miss Kaname still lives she will be as doomed as everyone else...
Well, it is pointless to consider such things. I am alive and well as is, am I not?
Third Person:What were the duties of a Magical Girl?
To spread hope, dreams and shine a light to sear away despair. To save the world.
What were the duties of a Puella Magi?
...Different.
She knew it, probably better than anyone. She had as soon as she made her contract, the first pulse of her power showing her all the answers, as she'd known it would.
"I wish to understand the meaning of my life!"The duty of a Puella Magi was to fall. If a Magical Girl could die for the world, a Puella Magi would die for the universe. To break, shatter and fall into despair that the universe could keep on going that little bit longer. She held no anger or bitterness. It wouldn't have achieved very much.
She understood that; she accepted that. If that was her fate, so be it. There was always a way around that; her father had shown her as much. All things considered, it would be no bad thing for Oriko Mikuni to fade out from the rational world and enter that of the Puella Magi.
But
that girl...
That girl, who never seemed to want for anything, that bizarre anomaly bursting with enough power to crack this world in half...
that girl who had nothing to wish for but would contract all the same...
That, right there, was a fool.
She pitied her, if she was honest. Such a naive child wouldn't stand a chance against the Incubators, and given her potential, there was no way they'd let her pass them by. Even her protector, for all her attempts, would not be able to save her. Such a sweet little thing; there was no way she could have wanted any of this. Her plan, such as it was, would almost be a mercy to the poor girl.
Madoka Kaname was doomed to make a contract, and so end the world.
As a duty, she would prevent that.
